According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an outbreak of dengue fever occurred in Sao Tome and Principe. A total of 103 dengue fever cases were reported from April 15 to May 17, which was the first reported dengue fever outbreak in the country.
According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the worst dengue outbreak in Brazil has occurred in a decade. A total of 655,000 dengue cases were reported in the first four months of this year, 1.2 times the total number of dengue cases in the country last year (544,000).

Disease characteristics
Dengue fever is an acute mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the Dengue virus. It is mainly transmitted by the bite of Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus. The incubation period is 3 to 15 days, and most of them are 5 to 8 days.
The clinical manifestations are acute onset, ranging from mild fever to high fever, accompanied by severe headache, muscle and joint pain and rash, flushing of the face, neck and chest, severe cases may be caused by shock or other important organ damage die.
